Favorite 2017 Releases
Here’s a quick, simple compilation of my favorite reads from the 2017 releases! Keep in mind – I’m a fantasy/sci fi lover, and I tend not to dive into contemporary often (especially issue books) for several reasons having to do with mental health. BUT, if you’re looking for a great read you may have missed, check these out!
Also, be sure to let me know what your favorite reads are in the comments below! I’m always looking to add to my TBR pile 😉 And keep on the lookout, I’ll be showcasing some of my favorite 2018 reads based on the ARCS I have loved!
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
I still get goosebumps when I think about this book. Scarlett Dragna enters the mysterious game of Caraval to find her sister, only to be swept up in a game she isn’t prepared for. Omg – I loved every single thing about it – the plot twists, the mystery, the world – and I can’t recommend it enough! If a story can keep me 100% enthralled and in the dark, desperately rummaging through theories in my head until the very end, I’m sold.
Wintersong by S.J. Jones
Oh man, I loved this one. Wintersong is like Caraval meets Hades/Persephone. A deeply mysterious, emotional journey to a world underground – a bargain with the *handsome* Goblin King – this is a story you don’t want to miss!
A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi
Oh my gosh – this was a wild ride (and another book that reminds me of Caraval!) Take two headstrong characters and throw them together in a magical tournament and make them team up and begrudgingly develop feelings for one another, this is one of the best hate-to-love fantasies I’ve ever read. Not to mention, the culture, the characters, and the writing is so lovely it hurts. (Ps. This is technically a companion novel, but the story stands on its own!)
An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
Girl gets whisked away to faerie land by an Autumn Prince to pay for her crimes? Do I need to say more? This is without a doubt one of the loveliest books I’ve ever read. And a bonus? The author is so incredibly sweet and talented – I pretty much aspire to be her.
Roar by Cora Carmack
I’m always on the lookout for a fresh fantasy, and Roar hit the mark. Super unique world, a villain that has Darkling potential, and a heroine you can truly root for – this book was a whirlwind of fun!
Warcross by Marie Lu
Oh man, guys. You are not prepared. Warcross is easily one of my all time favorite books. This story is an adrenaline rush and will keep you guessing from the first chapter. Its like Ready Player One meets… I don’t know… something totally unique? Emika is one of my FAVORITE heroines too.
Renegades by Marissa Meyer
OOOH guys. I’m not normally into super hero stuff (I mean, don’t get me wrong – I loved Avengers and all that, but I almost feel like the overall superhero thing is so overdone these days?) But wow, this was totally fresh and fun, and the characters will totally grip you. I didn’t expect to love this so much. The heroine is in a villain gang and the hero is among the heros – soooo you guessed it – a perfect rivalry set up. Until they meet, without knowing each other’s true identities… and have a connection.
Hunting Prince Dracula by Keri Maniscalco
I loved the first book in this series, but oh man, this one had ALL the feels. Set in Romania (in Dracula’s castle – yes, a real place) – Aubrey Rose attends college alongside of Thomas freaking Cresswell, and drama (and feels) ensues.
One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake
I liked the first book in this series, but this one was CRAZY fun. Like you guys – the pacing was off the charts fast, and the plot twists/drama/feels… I can’t. Trust me, if you have any love for fun fantasy, don’t miss this.
These Ruthless Deeds by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas
Oh man, so I LOVED ‘These Viscious Masks’ – the first book in this series. I loved this one even more. With a historical meets steampunk vibe, the world is totally unique and fun. And if you have any love for Nikolai Lantsov, ladies, meet his twin – Mr. Nicolas Kent. And if you are more of a Mr. Darcy kinda gal, well we got you covered there, too.
Rebel Seoul by Axie Oh
Warcross fans, meet your next favorite book! I can’t swoon enough over Rebel Seoul. Set in futuristic Seoul, this novel will thrill your pants off. I’m talking action, romance, friendship, badass ladies, and FEELS. Everything you could want in a book! Don’t miss it, guys. Trust me!
Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill
Okay so do you remember the plot twist at the end of book one? Well, get ready to be thrown back into Erin’s gorgeous world, and this time, you won’t be able to stop for breath. Her characters come alive in this sequel, and trust me, they will grip you by the heart and squeeze until you’re panting. This was a wild ride! I loved the first book, though it was a tad slower than some other fantasies, but this one was seriously fast and fun. SO GOOD!
Others I loved that are highly marketed and don’t even need a description (but just as amazing): Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas (I did a full post including my time interviewing Sarah), A Conjuring of Light by Victoria Schwab, The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. Three of my favorite authors – and they are well known for a reason 😉
