Hey friends! I’m so excited to partner with theNOVL to bring you a giveaway for one of my all time favorite books – The Cruel Prince by Holly Black!
About The Cruel Prince
By #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black, the first book in a stunning new series about a mortal girl who finds herself caught in a web of royal faerie intrigue.
Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King. To win a place at the Court, she must defy him—and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Before I jump in with the giveaway, I want to hear who your favorite villains are! Let’s face it, some of the best stories are defined by villains that either get under your skin, or who you shamelessly want to join. For those of you who know me, you know I’m a sucker for a good antagonist, especially the ones that tug at my heart – or who are just plain cool.
The Cruel Prince gives us Cardan – who I was SUPER unsure of at first. He started off as your typical bully, but as I read on, I was surprised at how complex and interesting he became – and oh boy, the ending sets him up to be FANTASTIC for book two. He’s made it onto my all time favorite villains list for sure, though I’m curious to see which path he’ll end up taking 😉
As far as other fantastic villains, I think most of us can agree that the Darkling from Shadow and Bone left a serious hole where our hearts should be. I’d say he’s the best on-page villain, and my oh my would I love to see him on screen. Some other favorites are Holland from A Darker Shade of Magic, Legend from Caraval, and a certain someone from Warcross that I can’t name because of spoilers!!! I also loved the villain in Claire Legrande’s upcoming novel Furyborn – so keep an eye for the release soon! Be sure to comment below and let me know which ones made an impression on you!
