Happy tears… and other emotions that I’m not sure how to express…
Alright. Let me do a quick recap.
Book 1: Great character development, good over all. (But kinda slow…) Unique plot line that sucks you in once you hit the plot twist. I did have some complaints that I won’t list here.
Book 2: Deep political intrigue. Very heavy feels. 1000000% frustration. (Can I please add more zeros??) Can I just say that I read book 2 a few months ago and DID NOT REALIZE THAT BOOK 3 WASNT OUT YET?? It was like a punch in the gut.
Book 3: Oh, you thought you were done being tortured from book 2? Think again.
You have been warned.
So yes, this book = one hell of a frustrating journey. So many good moments, and so many painful ones. Prepare yourself.
I’m VERY thankful to report that the ending is absolutely wonderfully wrapped up.
Overall, this series was a great ride. The strategy, politics, and world building was really intriguing throughout the entire series. The emotions are very raw, and the struggles are quite realistic. I do have a few complaints though. Marie’s writing style was a little frustrating, but I get it. I was disconnected at some moments because of it. I didn’t love the religious aspect of these books either – it was a little off putting to me.
***Spoiler Alert below for my last complaint***
I just feel that we went through SO much with Arin and Kestrel.. that we just needed a bigger pay off for them. Don’t get me wrong- the had some VERY satisfying moments… but after all the drama.. I needed a bigger climax for them.
Either way… as a whole, this series was brilliant… but I’m emotionally spent. I don’t know that I would read these a second time because of the amount of emotional torture I’d have to go through again.
